In order to qualify for disability payments your work record must reflect you have earned enough credits. This program is a benefit only for those that have paid into the system sufficiently. Assuming you have the proper credits you must next prove you are disabled.
 
The dictionary defines disability as a physical or mental condition that prevents a person from leading a normal life. Social Security's definition of disability is more specific and relates to your ability to work. To qualify for disability, you must have a physical or mental impairment that is expected to keep you from doing any "substantial" work for at least twelve months or you must have a condition that is expected to result in your death. Generally, monthly earnings of $830.00 are considered "substantial" and you will not qualify for Social Security disability. If you make less than $830.00 further inquiry will be made as to your employability. Social Security reviews your previous work history and determines if you can perform a previous job or even a hypothetical job based upon past experience and skill. Often claims are denied because Social Secur
